Our latest CineFans Club gathering was an intimate and thought-provoking evening dedicated to celebrating queer cinema and its profound influence on our lives. Queer stories on screen often provide us with reflections of ourselves — offering visibility, validation, and sometimes even the role models our real-world environments may lack. Through cinema, we explore our experiences of love, identity, and resilience across different cultures and contexts.
We screened two remarkable films that sparked deep conversation and connection among attendees:
🎬 Kiss (India, 2022) — A powerful exploration of queer intimacy and the persistent shadow of censorship in Indian society.
🎬 Emilia Peréz (Spain, 2024) — A dazzling musical drama about a Mexican drug cartel lord who transitions into a woman with the help of a lawyer, blending themes of redemption, transformation, and identity.
As always, the evening was filled with laughter, snacks, and endless cups of chai. After the screenings, participants shared personal reflections on how queer cinema has shaped their journeys — from discovering representation for the first time to recalling their most cherished cinematic memories.
It was a night of community, creativity, and heartfelt conversation — reminding us once again how storytelling connects and empowers us all.
