On a cozy monsoon afternoon, GayBombay marked its 27th anniversary with warmth, nostalgia, and a touch of melody. Held at the welcoming home and terrace of Balachandran Ramiah—a founding core member of GayBombay—the event brought together 45 attendees, including more than 20 newcomers experiencing the magic of a GB meet for the first time.

From the moment guests arrived, Bala’s open-hearted hospitality set the tone. All the rooms were thrown open, and conversations flowed freely, mixing old friends and fresh faces.

Soon, we moved to the building terrace, forming a circle against the dramatic backdrop of Mumbai’s rain-kissed skyline and a clear view of Terminal 2 at the international airport. Stories from the past 27 years were shared—some funny, some moving, all deeply personal and meaningful.

Back indoors, a delightful spread awaited us. Samosas, batatawadas, fresh fruits, and snacks were lovingly arranged, with beautifully carved fruit creations by Pratik adding a touch of artistry.

The highlight of the evening was an impromptu singalong led by Kunal on the guitar. Familiar songs brought a sense of playfulness and collective joy, with everyone chiming in.

Later, we watched videos from past Mumbai Pride marches and the iconic GB flash mob. Laughter echoed as we spotted familiar faces, some we hadn’t seen in years. There was a tangible sense of community and continuity.

As the rain continued to fall outside, inside there was only warmth, joy, and a renewed sense of connection. The 27th anniversary meet wasn’t just a celebration—it was a reminder of the journey we’ve taken together and the vibrant future still ahead.
