🌈 Suhail Abbasi (He/Him/His) – a respected pioneer and stalwart of our community.

With over 30 years of experience across print, films, television, theatre, and digital platforms, Suhail’s journey is a beacon of courage and vision. He co-founded Bombay Dost in 1990, India’s first registered LGBTQIA+ magazine, and went on to become the Co-Founder & Chairperson of The Humsafar Trust @thehumsafartrustofficial , the country’s first registered organisation championing the health and human rights of the LGBTQ+ community.

As a petitioner in the fight against Sec 377, a mentor to budding journalists and filmmakers, and a proud, out media professional, Suhail has shaped narratives, inspired generations, and created safe spaces for countless voices. His work in promoting diversity and inclusion, alongside his many films around LGBTQ+ themes, has left an indelible mark on our movement.

We are honoured to celebrate Suhail Abbasi as our first award recipient at the Gay Bombay Awards 2025. 🌟
